Sign up for Houston alerts to stay safe during winter freeze

As a winter freeze approaches the Houston area, city and state officials are urging residents to register for emergency alerts to stay informed and safe.

AlertHouston, the city’s official emergency notification system, delivers timely information about current conditions, expected impacts, and protective actions to keep residents and their families safe.

Residents can sign up to receive alerts via email, text message, voice call, or mobile app push notifications.

The Everbridge app, available for free on Apple and Android devices, allows users to receive geo-targeted alerts and register up to five physical addresses per contact.

For individuals who may need additional assistance during an emergency, the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR) provides another layer of support.

The free registry allows emergency planners and responders to identify residents with limited mobility, sensory disabilities, medical fragility, or other access and functional needs. While registering with STEAR does not guarantee a specific service, it helps local officials plan and respond more effectively.

Houston-area residents are encouraged to sign up for alerts at AlertHouston and to register for STEAR if they, or someone they care for, may require additional support during emergency events.
