HPD officer hit by possible impaired driver in west Houston

HOUSTON – An officer with the Houston Police Department was reportedly involved in a crash early Tuesday morning in west Houston.

The crash took place around 4:10 a.m. on Westheimer and Wilcrest Drive.

According to investigators, the HPD unit was sitting at a red light when it was hit by the other driver’s vehicle from behind.

Investigators said that they believe the driver was impaired at the time of the crash, adding that speed may have been a factor as well.

Both the driver and the HPD officer were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and are expected to be OK.

The driver is reportedly not cooperating with the investigation at this time.

Officials are asking others to avoid the area if possible.
