North Texas sheriff’s deputy shot and killed while responding to domestic fight

EASTLAND COUNTY, Texas – A deputy with the Eastland County Sheriff’s Office was killed after being shot while responding to a domestic fight Friday night.

The sheriff’s office said at approximately 9 p.m. on Friday, deputies responded to the fight at a home between the towns of Cisco and Rising Star.

Deputy David Bosecker was the first to arrive at the scene. The sheriff’s office said Bosecker immediately began taking gunfire from the suspect. He was struck and fatally wounded by the gunfire.

Other units arriving were able to apprehend the suspect and no one else was injured.

The suspect was taken to the Stephens County Jail where he was charged with capital murder. The active investigation is being led by the Texas Rangers.

Authorities in Stephens County identified the suspect as Cody Douglas Pritchard.

Deputy Bosecker had been in law enforcement for over 21 years and was a master peace officer. He began his law enforcement career in Wise County as a deputy then transitioned to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. He would later become a game warden for Texas Parks and Wildlife. He was also a police officer for the Comanche Police Department.

The sheriff’s office said Bosecker ended up in Eastland County as a deputy in 2021. He also worked part time for the Cisco Police Department as a marine enforcement officer.

Multiple law enforcement offices and public figures from across the state offered condolences on social media.
