Delindsey Mack identified as Lamar High School student gunned down near campus

HOUSTON – Police identified a Lamar High School student Wednesday who was gunned down while walking with a classmate near the school.

Houston police said Delindsey Mack, 18, was likely targeted Tuesday by a masked gunman, who shot him while he was walking with a 15-year-old girl on Bammel Lane, not far from the school.

Police said that Mack fell to the ground after being shot, and the gunman stood over him and fired several more times. The shooter jumped into a black Subaru with a plastic bag on the rear passenger-side window that was occupied by two other people and fled, police said.

The girl was grazed by one of the shots, police said.

Police originally said that the getaway vehicle that was being sought was found several hours later. However, on Wednesday, officials said that they could not confirm that vehicle that was found was indeed the vehicle used in the shooting. They said they are now looking for a small, dark gray, four-door car, possibly Nissan Sentra with a paper license plate and plastic covering the rear passenger-side window.

The search for the shooter continues.

Editor's note: The name of the victim has been corrected after police said they mixed up his name in their original release.
