WATCH: Ski chairlift goes backwards at high speed, flings riders off

It's every skiers' nightmare -- the chairlift.

Several people were injured after a chairlift at a ski resort in the country of Georgia malfunctioned.

Videos of the incident from witnesses show the lift operating backwards at a high rate of speed, flinging riders off.

Several riders jumped off before the lift whipped around the base station.

In the video, witnesses attempt to warn other riders, but many skiers could not get off in time and were flung off the chair into the air.

According to metro.co.uk, at least two people, including a pregnant woman were seriously injured.

The Georgian Interior Ministry has opened a criminal case, according to RT.com.
