Production begins for Hurricane Harvey movie

HOUSTON – A movie about Hurricane Harvey is in the process of being made.

Street Corner Films is expected to produce "Harvey" this year, only four months after the storm. 

Hurricane Harvey was an unexpected catastrophic storm that hit the Houston area, causing devastation for many. Lives, homes and valuable possessions were destroyed by floodwaters caused by Harvey, which inspired the production company to make a movie about the event.

Will it be based on a true story?

"It's a feature film inspired by Hurricane Harvey. It's fiction-based with a mixture of truth in it," an official with the production company told KPRC 2.

What message does Street Corner Films want viewers to take away from this movie?

"We must give thanks in all things. Every day is our opportunity to do so, and (to be) a better human being. Hurricane Harvey came to destroy, and it did. But we are still standing ... strong. That's hope. Harvey brought pain, but it also brought people of (different) races together. In the midst of tragedy, love came -- the kind of love that does not discriminate against color nor nationality," an official with the company told KPRC 2.

The production company will begin filming on Feb. 17, and filming will last for 10-14 days. The company hopes to release the movie on the anniversary of Hurricane Harvey. While the production company already have the main characters of the movie, they are still looking for 100 more extras to be in the movie. Click on its Facebook page for more information.
