Rice University provides estimated damage, rainfall from Hurricane Harvey

HOUSTON – Rice University’s Kinder Institute for Urban Research has provided numerous visual maps and data sources to estimate damages caused by Hurricane Harvey.

The story map includes, cost of storm damage, rainfall estimates, most-affected neighborhoods, locations and age and building type of likely affected homes.

“The Kinder Institute received many requests from organizations and communities for Harvey-related data, so we decided to create this tool to better inform the general public of the preliminary damage assessment," said Jie Wu, director of research management for the Kinder Institute.

“There will be more analysis once we get the actual flood claim data, and we will update the page with useful data and mapping resources to assist in long-term recovery planning efforts.”
