HOUSTON – Harvey has ruined many things across the Houston area, but a group of Katy teachers, parents and students have joined forces to make sure homecoming is not another storm casualty.

The organizers have set up what they're calling "pop-up shops" at homes and schools in Katy to help furnish students with dresses and shoes for the big dance.
Reagan Celaya, a sophomore at James E. Taylor High School in Katy, started asking for dress donations just over a week ago. She collected more than 250 dresses.
In a Facebook post, Reagan wrote: “No girl should have to skip homecoming because they couldn't afford a dress or simply because they forgot about how close their homecoming was.”
In addition to Reagan’s efforts, a group of teachers at Memorial Parkway Junior High held a drive to collect dresses. They gathered nearly 400 in just eight hours.
Some of those dresses have been given to students, but many more -- more than 600 -- remain for girls to peruse.
On Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m., a pop-up shop will be held at James E. Taylor High School in the Competition Gym foyer, located at 20700 Kingsland Boulevard, Katy, Texas 77450.

The effort was initially aimed at Katy students, but organizers have decided to help students from across the area.
The organizers’ slogan: “If it fits, it is FREE!”
“We have so many dresses,” organizer Melanie Beisert said. “We need girls to try on these dresses -- to come and take them.”
