Man reunites with rescued family after long night of waiting at Houston convention center

HOUSTON – A man was reunited with his family Monday morning after he was separated from them during a rescue Sunday.

KPRC 2’s Haley Hernandez met Angel at the George R. Brown Convention Center Sunday night. He was carrying a plastic bag filled with prescription medications and clothing for the family members he lost earlier in the day.

Angel, who identified himself only by his first name, also carried a pool raft that was similar to the one that he sent his family members out on.

His family members were rescued and taken away and he stayed on the second float waiting to be rescued himself.

Angel -- carrying his pool raft -- and his aunt, Amelia, we're at the convention center all night, waiting by the door hoping to find their family members.

Hernandez said she saw him several times looking through the sleeping and dining areas at the convention center, searching for his family.

“I just watched the disappointment on his face every time he couldn't find them,” Hernandez wrote.

On-air Monday morning, however, Hernandez had a great update: Angel had been reunited with his family.
