Texas man dies during dive trip off Key Largo

KEY LARGO, Fla. – A Texas man died Sunday during a dive trip in the Florida Keys.

Oswald Regueira, 58, of Amarillo, was on his first dive of the day when the incident took place off Key Largo, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

The captain of the Rainbow Reef Dive Shop's Tropical Legend told deputies that Regueira surfaced from his dive at French Reef in apparent distress.

All other divers were called back to the boat, and Regueira was pulled on board.

CPR was performed as the boat made its way back to shore. Paramedics took Regueira to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier, where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of death remains under investigation.
