Man arrested after cutting 2 women with machete, leading SAPD on chase

Chase began just after 7 a.m. in 200 block of Army Blvd

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police have arrested a man after he allegedly cut two women with a machete and then led officers on a vehicle chase early Thursday morning.

The incident began just after 7 a.m. at an apartment complex in the 200 block of Army Boulevard, found not far from Brackenridge Park.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said officers arrived and found the door of an apartment barricaded. The officers removed the burglar bars and climbed in through the window to find two women inside the home with multiple cuts. 

McManus said police got a description of the suspect's van and pursued him up Highway  281 toward the Quarry, then back down again. The suspect eventually hit one police car and two other vehicles before finally wrecking at Euclid Street and Wilmington.

The man fought with officers and suffered some injuries before being taken into custody. 

McManus said police do not know the relationship between him and the women or the reason for the attack, but that they did recover a machete from his van. The women were taken to a hospital in serious condition.

The suspect is presently is being charged with aggravated assault.
