Teen accidentally kills himself on Instagram livestream

A 13-year old Georgia boy died after he accidentally shot himself Monday while on social media.

Friends and neighbors gathered outside the family's home to mourn the loss of Malachi Hemphill.

The teen was live streaming himself on Instagram while handling a gun. Several of his friends were online watching the stream when the teen accidentally shot himself.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

According to the teen's mother, Shaniqua Stephens, Malachi was asked by someone watching the stream why he didn't have a clip in the gun and suggested he put one in. When he did, that's when the gun reportedly went off.

Stephens said she was in the home when the shooting happened. She said the pain she feels will never go away.

Neighbors said they are shattered by the incident.

Stephens said she hopes the tragedy will be a lesson for others.

"Nobody expects their son to accidentally shoot them self," she said. "To find your 13-year-old son on the floor with a gunshot in his head, that's just something you never forget."

Stephens had a message for others.

"(If) you see your friend with a gun tell a parent because this is a situation that didn't have to go this far," she said.

Stephens said she's not sure where Malachi got the gun.

Investigators are working to determine how he got it.
