Click2Daily: Monster Jam takes over NRG Stadium

HOUSTON – Monster Jam has officially taken over NRG Stadium in Houston, and the super-sized trucks will be the center of attention.

“There’s nothing like it. You can’t go to an event where it’s completely safe for the entire family (to)come to and have as much fun as you’re going to,” said Adam Anderson, with Team Grave Digger.

Grave Digger was created 35 years ago.

Scott Buetow is with Team Hot Wheels.

“It’s a fun family affair. It’s for everyone - boys, girls, men, women, everything. It’s controlled chaos in the middle of the floor,” said Buetow.

Out of 14 monster trucks, eight will qualify to race, and the bottom six do a wheeling contest. Lastly, drivers compete in the freestyle round to earn points for individual competitions.

Drivers said it’s a favorite of the night.

“The trucks going 30 feet in the air, jumping, doing cyclones, doing donuts, cartwheeling across the floor,” said Buetow.

The monster trucks are just that.

“The trucks weigh about 12,000 pounds. They’re 12 (feet) wide (and) 10 (feet) tall. They have 1,500 horse power,” said Anderson.

Drivers said a set of tires costs $12,000, and the entire truck costs about $250,000.

Drivers encourage fans to wear ear protection because the trucks are so loud.

The event is Saturday, Sunday and Feb. 18.

Tickets start at $15.
