Hundreds wait in line to get pies before Thanksgiving

HOUSTON – It’s a sweet Thanksgiving tradition that never fails to attract dessert lovers from across Houston.

The sign outside the Flying Saucer Pie Co. on Crosstimbers reads: “Happy Thanksgiving. Stand in line. Make some friends,” and that’s exactly how hundreds spent their day before Thanksgiving: waiting to get their hands on some delicious pies.

Stephanie Allen came all the way from Cypress to stand in line.

“Oh, I’m getting about three or four, and it will all be gone by the end of the night,” Allen said.

After making it inside, she managed to pick up a chocolate pie, a coconut pie and a mint pie.

“I can’t believe they had some left,” Allen said.

Even though it was above 70 degrees and sunny, pie lovers didn’t seem to mind the line out the door.

“One year, me and my mom waited for two hours. This year, we're at an hour and we're almost to the door,” said Joanna Simon.

The store closed just before 6 p.m. Wednesday, after running out of stock.
