AUSTIN, Texas – Officials recently received a tip indicating the body of a Creedmoor man could be found in a wooded area in southeast Austin — so they went to the scene with cadaver dogs, where they discovered the 33-year-old’s remains.

Paul Michael Longoria’s cause of death won’t be determined for several weeks due to “extensive decomposition,” according to a news release from Texas Search and Rescue.

Longoria’s skeletal remains were found in an area off Maha Loop.

The search-and-rescue team was requested by the Travis County Sheriff’s Office, which took the tip on Longoria’s death and where officials could locate his remains.

The cadaver dogs are specifically trained to find human remains. In this case, they led investigators to a body wrapped in a tarp along Maha Loop Road.

The Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the remains as Longoria’s.
