Family, friends gather to remember 2 children police say were killed by mother

HOUSTON – Family, friends and neighbors came together Tuesday night at a vigil in memory of two children who police say were drowned by their mother.

Members of Christian Hope Baptist Church led the crowd in prayers as others lit candles and quietly reflected on the lives of 5-year-old Kaiyana and 7-year-old Araylon.

"It just touched my heart to hear what happened to those kids," neighbor Teresa Oliver said.

Some close friends of Sheborah Thomas came to the vigil as well, saying they were still in disbelief.

"She was a good mother that's the crazy part to me, I don't know what led to these events," said Emily Payton.

The show of support overwhelming to the children's paternal aunt who is now planning their funeral.

"To know they are loved and supported even after this tragedy, I didn't expect this," Kita Thomas-Smith said.
