2 arrested shortly after snatching woman's purse in Kroger parking lot

Jason Wilkerson and Steven Brown

FRIENDSWOOD – Two men were arrested Thursday and charged with robbery after police said they shoved a 45-year-old Pearland woman and took her purse at a local grocery store.

According to police, the woman was walking out of the Kroger store at 151 N. Friendswood Drive around 9:30 a.m. and attempting to unlock her vehicle when she was pushed from behind by Jason Jarrod Wilkerson, 20. The woman fell and Wilkerson took her purse and ran to a car driven by Steven Earl Brown, 19, police said.

Police said Wilkerson and Brown sped off, but multiple witnesses were able to describe the vehicle, their direction of travel and the suspects to police.

Police said they found the vehicle on Castlewood at Misty Lane, and a witness and the victim identified Wilkerson as the man who committed the crime.

Wilkerson and Brown still had the victim's cellphone at the time they were arrested and the victim's purse was found several hours later, police said.

Wilkerson and Brown are charged with robbery and their bonds have been set at $40,000 each.
