According to deputies, the driver of an 18-wheeler was pulling out of a trucking yard on Green River and C.E. King Parkway at 1:30 a.m.
After stopping in the middle of the road to close the gate, he saw a pickup truck coming toward his direction.
"He says he initially saw the truck from a pretty good distance, but wasn't concerned because the speed limit is 30 miles per hour, " Sgt. S. Wolverton said.
As the pickup truck came closer, the 18-wheeler driver noticed he was speeding and honked his horn to alert him.
The pickup crashed into the side of the trailer, killing the pickup driver.
Deputies say the 18-wheeler had proper lighting and reflective equipment.
