CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Driscoll Children’s Hospital surgeons who earlier this week performed the separation surgery of conjoined twins discussed the complex procedure Friday.
Doctors separated the 10-month-old sisters who were born conjoined below the waist. The operation took more than 10 hours, doctors said.

The girls — Ximena and Scarlett Hernandez-Torres — shared a colon and bladders that had to be reconstructed. Their identical triplet sister, Catalina, was born without serious health issues.
The staff at Driscoll Children's Hospital has cared for the girls since they were transferred to the facility hours after birth at another area hospital.
Dr. Haroon Patel says a team of specialists had been working for months to prepare for the surgery.,
A hospital statement said the girls will require additional surgeries as they grow.
