All wireless devices banned from West Virginia town

GREEN BANK, W. Va. – Can you imagine living in a town that bans cellphones?

Green Bank, West Virginia has banned all wireless devices. The town houses the National Radio Astronomy Observatory, which operates the world's largest radio telescope. According to the "Today Show," the telescope is very sensitive to electronic interference and so powerful that it could pick up "the energy given off a single snowflake hitting the ground."

Michael Holstine, the observatory's business manager, told the "Today Show" that the telescope could pick up signals "from 13 billion light years away," but in order for that to happen, radio, television and cellphone towers are not allowed. This means no cellphones, tablets, cordless phones, wireless headphones, Bluetooth devices, microwave ovens and even garage door openers.
