Writing in cursive is American, senator says No description found
There is a new movement to bring cursive back into the American school curriculum -- well -- at least in Washington there is.
A bill introduced to the Washington state senate would require students to write in cursive.
The bill's sponsor, Sen. Pam Roach was inspired to sponsor the bill after hearing of a child who couldn't read it.
"Part of being an American is being able to read cursive writing," Sen. Roach told K5 news .
Cursive in the classroom was unofficially dropped when it was left out of the Common Core State Standards, which all but four states use.
Most schools give teachers the choice of teaching cursive, but most have chosen to devote time to other skills.
