Southwest Airlines plane from Houston skids off runway in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A flight from Houston to Nashville skidded off the runway at Nashville International Airport on Monday after making a rough landing.

According to the NBC affiliate in Nashville, the plane skidded off the runway into a ditch.

There are no reports of injuries.

"The plane apparently missed a turn on the runway or something and went into a ditch," said Erna Hassell, who was on board the plane.

Hassell was on her way back to Jacksonville, Florida, where she lives. She had just spent the week in Houston visiting her mom; she boarded the flight at Hobby airport Tuesday afternoon.

"We all kind of sat there and the plane went dark and a lot of 'What's going on? What's happened?'"

Hassell, and other passengers, told KPRC 2 they were forced to use the evacuation slide to exit the plane.

Newly released surveillance video shows the moments before and after Southwest Airlines Flight 31 skidded off the runway at Nashville International Airport.

The video shows the Boeing 737 as it taxied down the runway, when it suddenly took a dip downward, the lights went out, and the plane stopped in a ditch.

The surveillance footage also shows emergency crews responding about two minutes later, and a group of people crowded outside of the plane.
