Yolanda Black Navarro, longtime community leader, dies

HOUSTON – Community leader Yolanda Black Navarro has died after a long battle with an illness.

Navarro was a METRO board member. She was also a member of the Houston Parks board, a board member of the Greater East End Management District, a leader on the mayor's Hispanic Advisory board, and worked with many non-profits and charitable organizations.

According to her Facebook page, Navarro was 68 years old.

Houston City Council Member Ed Gonzalez released a statement that read in part, "There are not enough words to describe the impact that she has made on our city. Yolanda fiercely fought for the Latino community and for all Houstonians to be treated fairly, equally, and to be represented at all decision making tables."
