HOUSTON – A man is facing murder charges in the shooting death of a former U.S. Marine missing since last year.

Rodrick Cassell disappeared on Aug. 29, 2014, when he was last seen at the residence of some friends on 11923 Hunkler Drive. Friends told Houston police Cassell left their address to return to his home at about 12:15 a.m. According to officers, Cassell's girlfriend did not hear from him for several hours, and neither she nor family members were able to reach him by phone.

"When he left the house he told his girlfriend he was leaving and he was going to meet with a friend, and we never heard from him again. He didn't come home," his sister, Dykeba Frank, told KPRC 2 in November 2014.

Devante Malone, 21, was arrested on Thursday in connection with Cassell's death. Court documents said Cassell was shot to death.

Malone, 21, is being held in the Harris County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
