HOUSTON – Two men face charges after a Houston police officer was attacked early Sunday.

The officer was patrolling southeast Houston around 12:30 p.m., when he noticed several people were fighting at a home off South Acres Drive and Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard. According to investigators, there had been a party at the home earlier in the night.

He managed to separate the woman and a second person who were throwing punches at one another.

As he was holding the woman, a man came up and began yelling at the officer to release her. A second man then ran up and tackled the officer from behind.

The officer fell to the ground and grabbed his taser, shooting the man who had knocked him over.

He managed to handcuff the man and eventually took the first man, who had been shouting at the officer, into custody as well.

Both men face charges for assaulting a peace officer.
