Prisoner who escaped from La Marque police custody captured

LA MARQUE, Texas – Authorities have captured a prisoner who escaped police custody while he was being transported in La Marque Wednesday.

The La Marque Police Department spent the day searching for Thomas Watson and eventually tracked and followed him to a local Walgreens, where they moved in and put handcuffs on him around 2:40 p.m.

Investigators said the suspect was being transferred to the Galveston County Sheriff's Office around 1:40 a.m.

Police said there was a failed security measure, and the prisoner was able to flee from the La Marque Jail booking area and darted out the door.

"A case in like this, we owe this to any victim, to make sure we get the job done." said a La Marque police officer.

Watson was arrested previously True Courage, which is a local halfway house on a warrant out of Montgomery County for indecency with a child.
