PD: Man in Halloween mask robs Walmart in Hempstead

HEMPSTEAD, Texas – Police in Hempstead spent much of Thursday looking for two suspects who robbed the Walmart on Business 290 just before 7 a.m.

An armed robber wearing a Halloween mask walked in and demanded cash from several employees who were opening the store for the day and filling the registers with money.

Workers didn't get a description of the man because his face was covered.

"They couldn't really describe it, it was some sort of Halloween mask with colored hair," said Detective David Cortez, with the Hempstead Police Department.  "He did point the handgun at several employees while he was demanding the money, the good thing is nobody got hurt."

There was a second suspect in a getaway car parked outside.  One of the employees got a look at the license plate number and it turns out the car is stolen from Harris County.

The vehicle is a black, 4-door Kia sedan with the license plate No. DKN 3293

Anyone who sees the car is asked to call the police right away, the men inside should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

The men got away with a little more than $1,000 in cash and the case remains under investigation.
