Man found fatally shot in southeast Houston house

HOUSTON – Police are investigating after a man was found shot and killed Sunday morning  at a southeast Houston home.

Officials said the shooting happened in the 5700 block of Harriet Street near Sunnydale Drive around 10:40 a.m.

Officers said they found the body of Santiago Martinez Jr., 31, lying inside the home.

The Houston Police Department released a statement that read, in part:

"Mr. Martinez and some friends were at a residence at the above address when Martinez attempted to pull a gun on an individual. During a violent struggle for the gun, Martinez was shot and killed. All of Martinez's friends then fled the scene."

Officials said other witnesses who remained at the scene were questioned and released.
