HOUSTON – Julian Villegas, 19, showed no emotion as the judge read his capital murder charge in probable cause court Saturday morning.
He is accused of killing Anthony Johnson, 38, in the parking lot of Chula's Sports Cantina off the North Freeway and Barren Springs Drive.
"On arrival the (officers) observed a black adult male found in the parking lot with several gunshot wounds to the torso and arm," the clerk read from court documents.
Surveillance video shows Johnson eating at a table with Villegas and three other men.
"They drank beer at Chula's, didn't have any arguments while they were there," the clerk read. "There is no witness account of any argument or confrontation between the witness and suspect."
Deputies said Villegas shot Johnson several times, then stole Johnson's car and took away. He got into two separate crashes while speeding away from police.
"He fled on foot from that crash and was eventually taken into custody after hiding on the rooftops of homes," the clerk read from the court documents.
Deputies said they found a handgun and the victim's wallet inside the car.
Villegas remains in the Harris County Jail with no bond.
