Part of Kemah Boardwalk parking garage evacuated after chlorine leak

KEMAH, Texas – A portion of the Kemah Boardwalk parking garage was evacuated Wednesday night after a chlorine leak, according to Kemah police.

The Kemah Fire Department responded to the scene after a complaint about a strong odor in the area. Two people were checked out by paramedics after the leak, but they did not show any symptoms and were released from the scene.

The chemical leak was contained within a few hours.

Mark Kane, president of Theme Park Operations, said in a statement: "An isolated area in the parking garage was shut down for a time. It was a chlorine leak in a swimming pool pump located in the parking garage area."

Kane said the boardwalk was never shut down.
