Traveler's gun discharges at Bush IAH ticket counter; no injuries

HOUSTON – A traveler's gun was accidentally discharged Monday at a ticket counter at Bush Intercontinental Airport, according to officials.

It happened around 2 p.m. Monday. Airport officials said Joseph Austin was was trying to unload his gun at a Delta Airlines ticket counter at IAH's Terminal A to check it when the gun discharged.

One of the bullet fragments hit another person's leg, but it did not break the skin, according to police. 

Austin was returning to Kansas after visiting friends in Houston. Police said he realized when he got to the airport that he still had his gun with him.

Police responded to the scene and took Austin into custody. Austin, 45, is charged with deadly conduct.

The incident did not affect flights at the airport, officials said.
