PASADENA, Texas – An 11-year-old boy is being hailed a hero after an apartment building caught fire a second time Tuesday morning.
Wuan Walker went door to door, saving his neighbors when fire ripped through the Bryton Hill Apartments.
The building caught fire late Monday night. Firefighters put it out but had to come back when it was engulfed a second time.
Witnesses claimed that when Walker saw smoke, he jumped into action.
Viewers shot video of the fire, which shows the hot spots quickly spreading to make a second fire.
Three firefighters were hospitalized because of the fire -- two for heat exhaustion and one for complications from diabetes. They have since been released.
Walker's mother, Melinda Gonzalez, said she is proud of her son and that the fire could have been worse.
"I'm really proud of what he did," she said. "For his actions. Without him, you don't know what could have happened. I mean, they were probably asleep and didn't know what was going on."
A cause for the fire is under investigation. Fire officials said the building is likely a total loss.
