HOUSTON - Samsung is in the headlines for new technology yet again, but it isn't a new phone - the company is testing a new "Safety Truck" that could potentially change the driving landscape permanently.

The truck's design attempts to make driving on a two-lane highway safer by putting a camera on the front of an 18-wheeler and four large screens on the back doors.

With these new features, drivers following the "Safety Truck" can see what's ahead of the truck and out of sight, potentially allowing drivers to make better decisions about changing lanes or choosing to pass the truck, Samsung wrote in a blog posted last week.

In America, 75 percent of head-on collisions occur on undivided two-lane roads, according to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, and Samsung's "Safety Truck" could help bring those numbers down.

Although the prototype was only tested in Argentina, Samsung wrote that the technology works, and the next step is to perform more tests that comply with national regulations and get necessary permits and approvals.
