HOUSTON – A Harris County Grand Jury will decide whether charges will be filed in connection with the shooting death of an 18-year-old man in southeast Houston, Houston police said Friday.
Osvaldo Uresti died after a handgun discharged Thursday, shooting him in the face, officials said. Uresti died at Ben Taub Hospital.
Police said Uresti and three other teens were attending a graduation party at an apartment attached to a house on the 5600 block of Leeland Street.
Neighbors watched as police questioned teens who were inside when the gun discharged.
"I saw the ambulance come in and I see it was an 18-year-old shot in the head, I guess," said Raymond Lopez, who lives across the street.
Police did not tell KPRC who pulled the trigger, saying only that the shooting appears to have been accidental.
KPRC reached out to Uresti's family, but a woman who said she was his sister declined comment. She said her family did not want to talk because the loss is just too much for them.
Raymond Lopez feels it too, even though he didn't know Uresti.
"That's real sad because, I mean, you know, they just graduated too, you know?" Lopez said.
