Local business owner helps school damaged in flood

HOUSTON – Among all of the bad news KPRC 2 has covered during Houston's historic floods, there are signs of good coming from people who want to help those who were impacted.

Chip Jackson owns Tewbeleaux's Sports Bar and Grill in Spring and wanted to buy and donate new iPads for The Caroline School on Bissonnet Street near Newcastle Drive after seeing KPRC's story last week about how the school was hit hard by the floods.

"It's nice to be in a position to give back," Jackson said.

Jackson spent more than $8,000 on 20 iPads at the Apple Store in Highland Village on Tuesday.

"These kids have enough on their plate with the special needs and families without having one more thing to worry about. It struck my heart and I wanted to do anything I could to help them out," Jackson said.

The Easter Seals and Caroline School estimated the flood would cost them nearly $50,000 after two dozen destroyed iPads, wheelchairs and treadmills were damaged

The students who go to school there suffer from a range of disabilities, including autism and cerebral palsy.

"They are going to be extended family for us now and we are looking forward to them getting back in their classroom so we can come and visit and see the great work they do with these iPads," Jackson said.
