Man arrested after attempted carjacking in Montrose

HOUSTON – Houston police said a man in his 30s had just left F bar in Montrose over the weekend when he was attacked.

Investigators said the victim was sitting in his car on Albany Street near Tuam Street when Jacob Dearmon walked up to the vehicle and forced his way into the car.

"The suspect came up, ripped open the passenger door and got in the car and said, 'Hey, you need to take me down the street,'" HPD officer Abraham Vandberry said.

The victim was able to get out of his car and ran to F bar where he told police what was going on. Officers came to help him out and, at the same time, noticed the suspect was trying to kick in the door of the home nearby.

"He was kicking, trying to kick it in. He was running up and dropping his shoulder and trying to knock the front door in," said Vandberry.

Neighbors who live nearby saw all of the commotion.

"Well, at first, I was in shock, and then I was like 'Oh my gosh, what is going on?' I was worried because he was really hitting the door and trying to get in," said neighbor Pepe Valencia.

Officers arrested the suspect and took him into custody. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the crime over the weekend. This all comes on the heels of a major push to drive crime out of Montrose.

In March, a 22-year-old man was killed during a robbery near F bar. In all of these cases, the suspects have been arrested.

"This is a great example of residence, business leaders, community and police coming together and being a community. Preventing a crime that could've been much worse," said Officer Robert Sandoval.
