Psychologist's office in Montrose focus of raid

HOUSTON – The office of a psychologist contracted to conduct psychological evaluations on candidates for the Harris County Sheriff's Office and other agencies was raided by law enforcement Friday morning.

Neighbors said they were caught by surprise at the sight of officers.

"A police officer, he was wearing plain clothes, but he had a police windbreaker, opening up a car through the window," said Chris Fick. "Like popping the lock, and just seemed a little odd."

Investigators from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, known as TCOLE, executed a search warrant at the office of Dr. Carole Busick on West Main Street near Montrose Boulevard and Richmond Avenue. Busick had been contracted with the sheriff's office for a number of years.

A source told Channel 2 that Friday's sting was conducted after an investigation found that for seven years, none of the new hires evaluated by Busick for the sheriff's office have had proper psychological testing.

Sgt. Paul Bruce is a board member with the Harris County Deputies Organization. Bruce said the psychological evaluations are critical for a properly functioning department.

"It's a very stressful job," he said. "We want the best candidate, the best quality officer that we can provide to the community, because we need them to trust us in order to do our jobs."

Busick was also informed by TCOLE that they will no longer accept her evaluations until the investigation is complete and proper action is taken. Busick could be facing criminal charges.
