HOUSTON – One family in the Houston Heights is putting their house up for sale for 150. Not $150,000, but $150. But there is one unique task the family is requesting before you pay.
The homeowners are selling the house for $150, but they are requiring people to send in that money as well as an essay to get it.
The home is in Sunset Heights at 213 E. 23rd St., across the street from a park. The homeowner said he is listing the home on the website www.150house.com and that it has generated more than a dozen offers.
According to the Harris County Appraisal District, the home is valued around $400,000. So why sell it at $150 when you could get $400,000 for that sale? The man is going to take offers, $150 per offer with a 200-word essay.
"We are putting our house up for sale for $150 and an essay. Basically people write an essay and include $150. We will basically go through those essays and see what offer we like best," he said.
He said he is not sure what he and his wife are looking for when he said they will find the best essay, but he wanted to hear from people why they deserve that home for $150.
If you do the math, $150 times 3,000 offers, which is what he is looking for, gets them to about $450,000. That is how he is going to make money on this deal. They are taking offers until June 13.
If they decide at the last minute not to sell the home, the homeowner said he will refund the offer fees.
