Soldier surprises sister at school

FULSHEAR, Texas – A soldier and his little sister reunited at Huggins Elementary School on Tuesday, after he was deployed overseas for the past 10 months.

Sgt. Radd Rotello deployed to Kuwait last August. He currently lives in Dallas, but grew up in Fulshear. He is a member of the Army Reserves.

Tuesday afternoon students at Huggins Elementary in Fulshear packed their auditorium for a fifth grade choir concert. The students, including Rotello's younger sister, Karsen Council, were told they would be shooting a video to send to troops overseas.

After the students sang God Bless America, Sgt. Rotello appeared at the back of the stage. His sister was up front and had no clue he was there, until her choir teacher announced it. Karsen turned around and immediately started crying, as she saw her brother for the first time since August.

"The look on her face, the joy and happiness a brother can bring, you can't ask for anything more than that," Rotello said.

"I didn't think I was going to cry at all, but then when it actually happened it just kind of came over like a wave," Karsen said.

Rotello also surprised their grandmother, who was in the crowd and who also had no clue he would be at the school.

After he gets a chance to catch up with his little sister, Rotello says he plans to take a road trip to Disney World with his wife and young son.
