4th suspect arrested in 2013 fatal shooting of man

HOUSTON – A fourth suspect has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a man in July 2013.

Quenshaw Newsome is charged with murder in the July 7, 2013, shooting in which Jelani Simmonds was killed. Houston police said tenants of the townhome community at 9489 Pagewood heard several gunshots and found the victim a short time later. Simmonds, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three other suspects -- Darryl Cooper, Kendrick Monroe and Malcolm Willis Patterson -- are also charged with murder in the case.

A police investigation identified Monroe, 23, as a suspect in the case and he was arrested on Aug. 13, 2013 without incident. Cooper, 27, was arrested on Feb. 27, 2014. Patterson, 25, is in custody at a Texas Department of Corrections facility on unrelated charges. 

Police said further investigation identified Newsome as a suspect. He was arrested on Tuesday without incident.
