Galveston Ferry operations resume after crews search for man overboard

GALVESTON, Texas – All Ferry operations in Galveston have resumed after a man reportedly jumped overboard from one of the ferry boats Monday morning, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

Immediately, Ferry staff began rescue operations with the assistance of the United States Coast Guard.

Initially, the boat from which the man jumped, the John W. Johnson, was idle with 29 vehicles and 87 passengers as crews dropped rescue boats to search for the man. The Johnson continued onto the Bolivar side and all vehicles and passengers onboard were offloaded with assistance of the U.S. Coast Guard.

The ferry operations have returned to normal.  Officials have not said if the man was found.
