HOUSTON – A man's body was found burned inside a car in northeast Houston, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
The incident happened at John Ralston and Tidwell Road around 4:02 a.m. Friday. Emergency crews are on site investigating the scene.
A silver Infiniti that was pushed 100 yards off a canal next to a wooded area was found burned. Officers tell us a man was inside before the fire was set.
"It's just terrible for the family," said Darrell Hansen, who lives close to where the victim was found. "I came outside around 4:30 a.m. and I could smell something, but I couldn't see anything. I checked around the woods with a flash light, but I couldn't find anything."
"We still don't know the cause of death and we don't have a positive ID yet," said a homicide detective with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Hours later, there was a twist in the investigation surrounding the car fire. According to deputies, 14 miles away another man was found dead. He had been shot in the head. Investigators found his body on a path near Meadowbrook Park in Channelview.
Detectives at that scene tell us the two deaths may be connected.
Investigators are now trying to determine how the two homicides are connected.
