Family of 6 escapes house fire in southwest Houston

HOUSTON – A family of six managed to escape a fire that started in the garage of their southwest Houston home Thursday morning.

Firefighters were called to the home off Newquay Street and Abide Drive around 2:45 a.m. to find flames pouring out of the garage.

Crews quickly entered the house and put out the fire.

A family was home at the time, but they all made it out safely before firefighters arrived to the scene.

Crews were able to contain the fire mainly to the garage, but the house suffered moderate fire and heat damage.

Firefighters told Channel 2 that Red Cross would help the displaced family.

As of Thursday morning, arson units were still working to determine a cause of the fire.
