Quintuplets born to League City mom to stay in hospital for several weeks

HOUSTON – Quintuplets born to a League City family will stay in the NICU for several more weeks.

On Wednesday, KPRC 2 got the first look at exactly what it took for a normal mom to successfully deliver quintuplets and just how prepared the hospital had to be, in a news conference.

"I'm the quintuplet mom!" Danielle Busby laughed when she introduced herself.

"I'm Adam, I'm the dad, and I've just been blown away by her," Adam Busby said into the microphone.

At 28 weeks, the babies came early as expected.

"I don't see life without them now that I've seen them in person," Danielle said.

The Woman's Hospital of Texas says it has been prepared to deliver the nation's first set of all female quintuplets for weeks now.

"We had a few hours to prepare everything however the team was ready in view of the possibility of an emergency delivery," Dr. Alexander Reiter, fetal medicine specialist,  said.

Doctors say mom, Danielle Busby, was a faithful patient, following all recommendations, which they admit was a lot for one person to handle

"I had a 4,500-calorie diet, which is laughable, but I tried my best to try to do it and coming from to feeling pretty fit to having to eat 4,500 calories it's kind of like a shock but my priorities was the babies," she said.

The babies weigh about 2 pounds each and are each treated individually by their own doctors.

Two of them needed breathing tubes but doctors seem optimistic they will grow stronger and be released about the time of their due date, around 36-38 weeks.

When that day comes, the Busbys are still trying to imagine what their new normal will be like.

"We're going to have to get really good at accepting help and that feels very awkward to us," Adam said.

Since the announcement of the babies' birth, the couple's gofundme account has grown by more than $5,000.
