HOUSTON – Police are searching for the person or people who shot and killed two brothers outside a west Houston apartment complex.
The shooting happened at around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday at the Briarwood Village Apartment complex in the 2200 block of Avenida La Quinta Street.
When officers arrived on the scene they found two men in a courtyard dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
"We heard gunshots, then we tried to stay down and we saw two cars leaving," said Kia Babb, who lives near the scene.
Shortly after hearing several shots, Babb and her roommates rushed outside and found the two men on the ground.
"One guy was slumped over and the other guy was still breathing, so I just tried to keep pressure on his wounds," said Towanda Sutton.
Another neighbor, Brittany Joseph, 25, is a trained EMT. She heard screaming and came out of her apartment to find a maintenance man performing CPR on one of the victims. She said she began doing the same on his brother, but said his heart stopped beating minutes before an ambulance arrived.
Joseph said the man's sister was standing with them when they were shot, but wasn't hit.
"I would hope someone would do it if my family or friends were here. To find out they were brothers and their family was here," Joseph said. "That's a terrible way to find out."
The victims' identities have not been released. Police say they were brothers of Iranian decent. At least one of the brothers lived at the complex. Neighbors were shocked to learn about the shootings.
"This neighborhood isn't like that. It's so quiet," said Harvey Rellford.
Police spent about 12 hours interviewing witnesses and searching for clues with the help of a police dog. They still don't know who would want to kill the men, or why.
