Boston terrier goes viral after he rides a METRO bus for 20 miles

HOUSTON – A Boston terrier has gone viral after making a 20-mile journey on a METRO bus.

Monday morning a bus rider brought the dog into  the METRO downtown transit center office. But it wasn't his.

"He said he had boarded the 44 just like any other patron," said METRO police officer Ida Schoener.

The pup apparently got on bus 44 at Highway 249 and Hollister in north Houston and let himself off at the downtown transit center on Main Street.

Officer Schoener took the dog to Bayou City Veterinary Hospital  to get checked out.

"When I put him in the car he just laid down and looked at me like I was his chauffeur," Schoener said.

The vet says he's a little thin and nursing a sore ear but otherwise doing fine. Now they're focused on getting him home.

"We've put him on Facebook, a lot of different social networking sites," said Susan Baker of Bayou City Veterinary Hospital.

The dog had a very distinctive collar, so anyone who tries to claim him will have to describe it in detail before he's handed over.

If no one claims him, he'll be placed with a rescue group and put up for adoption.
