Appliances stolen from vacant homes in Lazybrook neighborhood

Renter discovers missing appliances while moving into NW Houston home

HOUSTON – At least three vacant houses in the Lazybrook neighborhood in northwest Houston have had their appliances stolen.

One couple got a big surprise when they moved into their new rent house on Crystal Court on Thursday. They found no appliances.

"Refrigerator and just grabbed stuff out of the kitchen. There wasn't anything in the home," said the new renter. "We showed up and all of the appliances were gone. So, they had broken in the back door and apparently opened up the garage and just backed up the truck and loaded the appliances in."

The renter said the back door had been kicked in.

His home was not alone. Appliances were also stolen from a vacant home, with a posted "for sale" not far away on Mill Wood Drive. The owner told police that someone broke in between March 7 and March 11 and stole all of the kitchen appliances.

The same was true at a house with a posted "for lease" sign on Millcreek Drive, where someone kicked in the back door and stole all of the big appliances, even the washer and dryer.

Neighbors circulated a picture on social media of a truck they said was seen in the neighborhood. Police said a neighbor described seeing a red Dodge pickup that pulled into the driveway on Crystal Court and reported someone carrying large appliances through the garage door. She told police, at the time, she didn't think anything of it.
