3 men rescued from flood waters in Conroe

CONROE, Texas – Three men are safe after flood waters trapped them inside their home.

Conroe police rushed to a home around 9 p.m. Tuesday on Pecan Bend Road near Highway 105 after a man reported he was trapped inside by rising water.

Montgomery County and Conroe fire departments were able to save the men along with two dogs.

They had to come here last night and fire and rescue and get the men out down there," said Floyd Morgan, who lives down the street from the house that flooded.

On Wednesday, Morgan and other residents kept a close eye on water levels.

"It looks like the lake is stabilizing," he said.

The flooding follows several days of rain, causing the inflow to bring the Lake Conroe Dam to 201.9 feet, almost a foot above normal.

Officials from the San Jacinto River Authority, which operates the dam, have been monitoring lake levels.

They open the dam based on how high the level is, in an attempt to stop it from rising.

"The flooding that we're seeing is due to houses that are built right on the river banks," said Bret Raley, manager of Lake Conroe Dam for the San Jacinto River Authority.

Raley says the flooding is routine and that his department is keeping a close eye on the dam and the nearby river bank.

"You're balancing letting enough water out to not flood people downstream as best you can, but not flooding people on the lake as well, so it's a balancing act," Raley said.

Montgomery County Precinct 1 Constable's Office said the water could continue rising. That all depends on any additional rainfall.

Authorities also advise people to avoid getting in the water and if you have been flooded before to take extra precautions; have clothes, pets, and medicine ready to go.
