Eric has had an interesting and unusual career path.Ā  After growing up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan,Ā Ann Arbor.Ā  He worked for several years as an engineer for FMC Corporation and General Electric before takingĀ a drastic turn toĀ pursue his passion for meteorology.Ā  On a leap of faith, he quit his job, sold his house and startedĀ graduate school at Mississippi State University.Ā Two years later heĀ earned a master's degree in geoscience with a focus on operational meteorology.Ā  HeĀ hasn't looked back since.

EricĀ landed his first television jobĀ atĀ WXVT-TV in Greenville, Mississippi, while still a graduate student.Ā  After securing his degree,Ā he went on to work atĀ WJXT-TV in Jacksonville, Florida, and WITI-TV in MilwaukeeĀ before joining Channel 2.

When he's not working, Eric enjoys being active outside.Ā  An avid runner and biker, he has completed over 30Ā marathons and many triathlons, including three full IRONMAN triathlons (a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run back-to-back!).Ā  In 2017 he competed in the IRONMAN World Championship Triathlon in Kona, Hawaii, to raise awareness and money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.Ā  His campaignĀ raised over $120,000.Ā

He likes to pair his passion for running with another passion --Ā travel.Ā  He has completed marathons in places large (Paris, Berlin, Rome, Vancouver, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington, D.C. and, of course, Houston)Ā and small (Pocatello, Idaho, and St. George, Utah, to name two).Ā  His goal is to eventually run a marathon in every state and every continent -- including Antarctica.Ā  Hopefully his legs will hold up long enough to do it!

His other interests include painting, cooking,Ā baking (his carrot cake is legendary!), reading and spending quality time with family and friends.

Eric does a mix of work in front of and behind the camera at Channel 2.Ā  You mightĀ see him giving the weather forecast any day of the week at any time of day, depending on which shift he's filling.Ā  He also pinch hits weekday mornings on traffic duty as needed.Ā  He hasĀ served as a reporter and has covered community events live fromĀ the field from time to time, too.Ā  You might consider him the ultimate utility player!

Eric is married and lives in Houston.
