HOUSTON – Six people were taken to the hospital for burns and smoke-related injuries after an apartment fire in southwest Houston on Saturday morning.
Around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, firefighters were called out to an apartment complex on 3737 Hillcroft Street. When they arrived on the scene, they found heavy flames and smoke billowing up from one of the buildings.
"Everything was burnt and I saw a whole lot of people just looking at it," resident Ismale Camacho said.
It took about an hour for firefighters to put out the blaze. Everyone who lived in the unit got out safely but six people had to be taken to the hospital for burns and smoke-related injuries.
"There was a lot of people out there, and there was children outside with blankets," Camacho said.
The cause of the fire has not been determined. The fire remains under investigation by the Houston Fire Department's arson unit.
